Workshops

Drums, Guitar, Bass and Vocals students at all levels are invited to join in and learn directly from our experts. You don’t need to have completed a Rockschool exam or be working towards one – our workshops are here for teachers and performers of all levels to learn more about developing their performance skills and preparing for exams.

3:30pm-4:00pm Guitar with Frank Young (Main Studio)

In this workshop, Frank will explain the importance of developing improvisation skills from the early stages of a guitarist’s learning.

He’ll then delve into analysis of chord progressions and scale choice for the improv/solo sections of songs at more advanced stages.

Frank will also offer practical tips for preparing for unseen tests.

3:45pm-4:15pm Bass with Mark Angel (Studio 2)

In this workshop, Mark will be talking about two of the points he comments on most when examining bass students.

You played all the right notes, at all the right times, but the “feel and groove” wasn’t there. Did you know that in a bass line, not all of the notes are equal? Come and find out why.

Mark will also provide advice for the “Developed” and “Solo” sections of a song to ensure that your contribution is Excellence-worthy. He will touch on solo structure, landing notes, and the overall idea of “saying something” with your solo.

(Mark may also share why he thinks the bass guitar is the greatest instrument of them all.)

4:00pm-4:30pm Drums with Josh Bedoukian (Main Studio)

Josh will draw from years of experience examining and preparing students for Rockschool Drums exams in this workshop.

What makes a great fill?
How can I play stylistically?
How do my rudiments help me perform songs?

Josh will answer these questions and more, demonstrating using examples from the Rockschool Drums books across the grades.

4:15pm-4:45pm Vocals with Jorgelina Perez (Studio 2)

Discover the power and versatility of your voice in this engaging introduction to Rockschool Vocals!

This workshop will explore vocal registers and learn about the differences between speaking and singing, with practical examples from the Rockschool syllabus.

Through songs from Grade 1 (“A Million Dreams”) and Grade 3 (“22”), we’ll demonstrate how to use head, chest, and mix registers to bring each performance to life.

Masterclass

5:00pm-6:00pm Masterclass with Stuart Storer (Main Studio)

Learn from Lead Rockschool Examiner Stuart Storer in this engaging masterclass. We welcome musicians of all instruments and levels to perform a piece of music from a Rockschool Grade book and receive tailored feedback – or just come along and observe.

Are you interested in performing? Expressions of interest opening soon!

Showcase Concert

7:00pm-9:00pm, Main Studio

Hear from some of the best! Our showcase concert will feature some of our top Rockschool performers, and you’ll get to hear a collaboration of our Rockschool examiners who are putting a band together for your entertainment!

We’ll also provide the latest Rockschool and AMEB news, including an exclusive sneak peek of some exciting updates, and acknowledge some of our fantastic teachers and studios.
